About Us

The New York Alumnae Chapter (NYAC) draws its membership from the greater New York metropolitan area including all five boroughs, Long Island, southeast New York State, and northern New Jersey. We didn’t all originate from the area; in fact, most of us hail from elsewhere: the west coast, the south, the midwest… not only are our origins diverse, but also our interests. While some of us are in arts-related careers, others flourish in non-musical professions.

Annual special events include a fall kick-off brunch, a holiday musicale and potluck, and an American Musicale showcasing works created by American composers. “Mini musicales” interspersed at meetings throughout the year present sisters with many chances to perform together and for each other.

But we’re not all business! Social events are held on a monthly basis for recreation and to foster sisterhood. These have included bowling, winery outings, concerts, and virtual game nights.

Committees are the heart of activity within the chapter. From organizing social events to updating our bylaws, each committee is essential to keep NYAC running. With so many activities going on, there is bound to be something to match every member’s talent, skills, and enthusiasm.

NYAC has 20 members. This includes two Member Laureates and several emeritus members, who continue to enthusiastically support the chapter and the high ideals of Sigma Alpha Iota.
